Marcus Rashford’s time at FC Barcelona has entered a decisive stretch, and all signs point toward a complex internal debate. Sport reported Alfredo Martínez stating on the Moeve Fútbol Zone programme that Barcelona have not concluded their position, quoting him directly: “The decision regarding Rashford’s future has not yet been made.”
Rashford arrived with pedigree and expectation, and his numbers remain solid. Six goals and eight assists in 18 appearances ordinarily strengthen a player’s case. Yet performance data only tells part of the story, as the club weighs up style fit, squad structure, and its long standing wage issues. As Martínez highlighted, “Some don’t want him to stay because Rashford isn’t the type of player who presses high, and besides, he has a very high salary.”
This has become the central issue around his permanence. Hansi Flick’s high intensity approach demands consistent pressing from wide positions. Rashford brings pace, technique, and direct threat, but his adaptation has stalled, raising concerns even among those who appreciate his output.

Sport’s reporting also revealed that Barcelona have started to look elsewhere. Martínez said, “Barcelona is looking, among others, for a left winger, a player to provide cover for Raphinha.” That shifts the dynamic significantly, as identifying alternatives often indicates movement in the opposite direction for the current occupant.
Interest in RB Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa has gathered momentum. Martínez added: “The other day there was a meeting of agent representatives in Milan, which João Amaral, now Deco’s right-hand man, attended. He was there watching the Italy, Norway match, where Antonio Nusa, an extraordinary talent of only 20 years old, played.”
Barcelona are also tracking two more emerging wide players. “Barcelona has also been following Fofana, a winger for Olympique Lyonnais, and is monitoring Said El Mala, another fantastic winger who has already broken into the German national team and plays for Cologne,” Martínez stated.
With his purchase clause set at just over 30 million euros, Rashford would normally be viewed as a bargain in the current market. His scoring streak, including his latest goal against Olympiacos, reinforces his argument for continuity. Yet Barcelona’s financial caution, tactical rigidity, and internal disagreement could outweigh pure output.
At this stage, Barcelona’s uncertainty reflects competing priorities rather than dissatisfaction with Rashford as a footballer. His future hangs on whether Flick believes adaptation is possible and whether the club believes his salary structure can coexist with its wider rebuild.
Manchester United supporters observing developments in Spain will have mixed emotions. Rashford’s resurgence in front of goal, highlighted again with that strike against Olympiacos, shows a player rediscovering rhythm and confidence. Many fans believe Barcelona’s hesitation owes more to their financial strategy than to Rashford’s performances. A fee slightly above 30 million euros would feel undervalued for a player still capable of double figures in goals and assists across a season.
United followers are also asking whether a return to Old Trafford could genuinely be on the table. The idea of a rejuvenated Rashford coming back into a system that allows him to attack space and play to his strengths would appeal to many. They point to his six goals and eight assists as proof that he still delivers at elite level when conditions suit him. Some supporters also question why Barcelona expected him to transform instantly into a relentless presser when his best work has always come through explosiveness rather than constant defensive energy.
For United fans, the bigger question is about opportunity. If Barcelona do not activate the clause, should United intervene or allow him to move elsewhere in Europe? Several would argue that a motivated Rashford, aware he has more to give, could thrive again in Manchester. Others feel the relationship may have run its course, but even those supporters insist he deserves a club that values what he brings rather than fixating on what he does not.
Either way, United supporters are watching closely, and many believe Barcelona may regret letting him slip away if he finds the right environment next season.
