But £50m for a goalkeeper after one Premier League season? That is a huge call. Chelsea have already spent fortunes trying to fix problems, and supporters will want proof that Alonso is being backed with a plan rather than another headline purchase.

For Liverpool fans, the Alisson angle is naturally uncomfortable. If Juventus links grow, Roefs makes sense as a name to monitor, but replacing Alisson would require more than potential. It would require certainty.

Chelsea’s need feels more immediate. Sanchez has not fully convinced, and a new manager will want trust behind his back line. Roefs could offer that, but Stamford Bridge can swallow young players whole if the environment is unstable.
