Chelsea are reportedly sensing an opportunity to sign Liverpool star Luis Diaz as they apparently register their interest in the attacker.
The Blues are looking to bolster their attacking options and really, they need to sign a new striker and have neglected that area for some time now.
The Blues have gone through the last five transfer windows and failed to sign a true and proven number 9. Nicolas Jackson for me will forever be more of a wide forward than a centre forward, and Marc Guiu looks decent but is also still very young and raw. Christopher Nkunku is NOT a striker.
The Blues were linked with a host of new strikers in the January transfer window, with Liam Delap of Ipswich Town being the most heavily linked. They also looked at names such as Benjamin Sesko. However, they did not sign a new striker, something they have consistently failed to do in five transfer windows.
Could Diaz now be added to Chelsea’s list of attacking options they are looking at? Well, according to local reports, yes.
Luis Diaz in action for Liverpool
Chelsea are reportedly setting their sights on Diaz, according to Colombian outlet Antena 2.
With two years left on his Liverpool contract, Diaz has yet to commit to an extension, sparking speculation about his long-term plans.
Antena 2 reports that Chelsea are eager to lure Diaz to Stamford Bridge with a lucrative offer that would position him among the highest-paid players at the club. “The Colombian could be one of the ‘aces’ up the sleeve of the Chelsea management,” the report states.
Yeah this doesn’t sound like something new Chelsea would do. Maybe Roman Abramovich Chelsea, but not the current ownership. Think we can safely shelve this one as probably being untrue.
