Chelsea’s search for another young defensive talent may soon gather momentum, with TeamTalk reporting that Jacobo Ramon’s future will be decided during talks between Real Madrid and Como later this week.
The 20 year old centre back has emerged as one of Europe’s most promising defenders after an outstanding campaign in Serie A, and Chelsea have reportedly placed themselves in a strong position should Real Madrid decline the opportunity to bring him back to the Santiago Bernabeu.

For Chelsea, this represents another example of a recruitment strategy built around identifying elite young players before their value rises even further. Ramon fits that profile perfectly, although the final decision currently rests with Real Madrid.
Few players have enhanced their reputation as dramatically over the past year.
After joining Como from Real Madrid for less than €3million, Ramon quickly became a cornerstone of Cesc Fabregas’ side. His contribution extended beyond defensive solidity, with 32 Serie A appearances, two goals and an impressive 14 clean sheets helping Como secure Champions League qualification.
That rapid development has left Real Madrid in an enviable position. Their original agreement reportedly included a 50 per cent sell on clause alongside a buy back option that remains significantly below Ramon’s current market value.

Those clauses have given the Spanish giants considerable influence over the next phase of the defender’s career.
According to TeamTalk, Real Madrid have spent much of the summer evaluating whether Ramon deserves another opportunity at the club after becoming one of their standout development success stories.
Circumstances inside Madrid have shifted considerably following Jose Mourinho’s return.
The Portuguese coach has already overseen significant defensive recruitment, including the arrivals of Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Ibrahim Konate. Those additions inevitably affect Ramon’s pathway into the first team.

TeamTalk also reports that discussions surrounding fellow Como player Nico Paz have evolved in recent weeks, highlighting how quickly planning can change under a new manager.
Chelsea are now waiting for clarity, with sources indicating they expect an update later this week following discussions between Real Madrid and Como.
Chelsea’s interest in Ramon sits alongside a broader assessment of defensive options. TeamTalk reports that Maxence Lacroix, Nathan Collins and Joel Ordonez have all featured in internal discussions, while progress is also being made towards signing Atalanta wing back Marco Palestra.

Importantly, those pursuits are viewed independently rather than as alternatives. Ramon represents a developmental investment capable of growing into a leading Premier League defender over several seasons.
Reports also suggest the player would welcome the opportunity to move to Stamford Bridge should Real Madrid decide against reintegrating him into Mourinho’s squad.
The coming days could therefore shape not only Ramon’s immediate future, but also Chelsea’s defensive planning for years ahead. If Real Madrid choose continuity elsewhere, Chelsea appear ready to act quickly.
This feels like a transfer strategy that has become increasingly familiar and increasingly encouraging. Chelsea continues to identify highly regarded young players before they become household names, giving them the platform to develop at Stamford Bridge.
Jacobo Ramon appears to fit that blueprint. His performances for Como suggest he possesses the maturity to compete at a high level, while his age means there is still considerable room for improvement. Supporters have seen how carefully Chelsea are building for the future, and adding another talented defender would strengthen that vision.
The uncertainty surrounding Real Madrid’s intentions also creates an opportunity. If Mourinho believes his current defensive options are sufficient, Chelsea could benefit from circumstances rather than entering a straightforward bidding war.
There is also reassurance in reports that Marco Palestra’s arrival would not affect Ramon’s pursuit. It suggests recruitment is being conducted with specific positional needs in mind rather than collecting promising players without a clear plan.
Naturally, there are no guarantees that Ramon would immediately become a first team regular in the Premier League. Competition for places remains intense, and Chelsea already possess several young defenders. Even so, supporters generally appreciate seeing the club invest in footballers with long term potential instead of focusing solely on expensive established names.
If this opportunity becomes available, it is understandable why Chelsea are prepared to move quickly.
