Chalobah, now 27, has found himself edged towards the exit once more, with Chelsea’s centre-back department overcrowded and the club actively prepared to listen to offers. The key backdrop is Xabi Alonso’s clear intention to reduce numbers in that area. As a disappointed Chelsea supporter, this report is exhausting because it feels like the same story over and over again. Trevoh Chalobah has given everything to this club, came through the academy, handled himself professionally, and every time he looks like he might have a proper future here, he gets pushed back towards the door.

The most frustrating part is that this is not some fringe signing with no connection to Chelsea. This is a homegrown player who has already shown he can do a job, and yet the club keep stockpiling centre-backs and treating him like an accounting entry. Seeing quotes about wanting only “four or five” defenders may be practical from a squad-building point of view, but fans are entitled to ask why Chalobah always seems to be the one sacrificed.

If he is sold for £30m plus £5m in bonuses, some will call it smart business. Supporters will see something else too, another academy success discarded while expensive churn continues around him. That is the emotional cost of these decisions, and Chelsea have created too many of these situations in recent years.

If Chalobah wants Como, good luck to him. Honestly, you could hardly blame him. Working with Fàbregas, playing regularly, starting fresh in Serie A, it probably sounds far more appealing than waiting around to be valued properly at Stamford Bridge.
