There would be understandable caution as well. Palace fans know the team already have attacking options, and much would hinge on Mateta’s future and how the squad is being balanced. Spending €40m is major money, so this would need to be a deal the recruitment staff truly believe in, rather than an opportunistic reaction to PSG’s impatience.

That said, there is ambition in even being mentioned here.
