Report: Dayot Upamecano close to Bayern extension | OneFootball

The future of Dayot Upamecano is a seemingly never-ending topic at Säbener Strasse. Now there are many indications that a decision is approaching – with encouraging signs for FC Bayern.

According to BBC Sport, the record champions‘ centre-back is in advanced talks over a new contract and is reportedly close to an extension at FC Bayern. His contract currently runs until the end of the season, which would allow him to negotiate with other clubs from January. Nevertheless, there is growing hope in Munich that the 27-year-old will remain with the club in the long term.

It was previously reported that Real Madrid are intensifying their efforts to find a new centre-back. The withdrawal of Ibrahima Konaté as a transfer target has shifted the Whites‘ focus to other options – one of which is Dayot Upamecano. With his athleticism, pace and experience, the Frenchman fits perfectly into the profile the Spanish club are looking for. However, it now appears that the Whites will miss out on the Bayern centre-back.

Hoeneß with a clear Upamecano prognosis

Despite international interest, the Säbener Straße has recently been very optimistic, with honorary president Uli Hoeneß recently stating in an interview with Sky: „I think he will extend his contract.“ This sends a clear signal that the club believes the defender will stay.

Sporting director Max Eberl had also already made it clear: „We absolutely want it. I think we have communicated that sufficiently.“ According to Eberl, the financial component does not play a central role for Upamecano. Rather, the player is more concerned with prospects, trust and his sporting role under coach Vincent Kompany.

Together with Jonathan Tah, Upamecano plays a key role in central defense in Kompany’s system. The 27-year-old has impressed with consistently strong performances and is an integral part of the Bayern setup. Nevertheless, rumors of interest from Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Chelsea – clubs that have previously expressed an interest – have persisted.

The current development fits in with Hoeneß‘ statements, but also underlines how many twists and turns the personnel issue has already taken. In the meantime, however, the outcome seems to be becoming clear – a decision is likely to be made soon.
