Real Madrid’s squad is reasonably stacked across the field barring one position where the depth appears slightly shallow – the defensive midfield.
Aurelien Tchouameni has single-handedly manned the post in the department so far this season and the return of Eduardo Camavinga is expected to provide some depth to the neglected department.
Real Madrid, however, are alert to the situation and have been monitoring several young profiles in the position in recent months for the same. One such name they have had their eyes on is Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
As relayed by Defensa Central, Wharton’s current deal in England runs until 2029. It has no release clause and his market value stands at €45 million – a fee Los Blancos do not see to be justifiable at the moment.
At the moment, Real Madrid wish to wait it out and observe how the current players adapt to the role handed to them by Xabi Alonso.

That includes observing Camavinga at defensive midfield and Arda Guler and Franco Mastantuono in attacking midfield.
They will also monitor the situation of Dani Ceballos until next summer, and should any player leave, a serious attempt will be made to sign a new midfielder, possibly Wharton.
Reports in England relay that the youngster does not contemplate moving out of the Premier League as he sees it to be a league he has adapted to well over the years.
Concurrently, however, he is aware that the Real Madrid train passes only once and that he values the club’s interest in him.
The final decision over the 21-year-old’s signing, thus, will depend not only on the player’s form but on Real Madrid’s midfield situation next summer.
At this point, competitors including Liverpool and Manchester United will be more alert than ever before.
