FC Barcelona are looking to strengthen their attack for the 2024-25 season, and previous reports indicated that the Liverpool winger Luis Diaz is their favorite candidate for this purpose.

However, there are some other players as well on the Catalan club’s agenda, including the Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford and the Athletic Club winger Nico Williams.

The Blaugrana club’s links with Nico have been particularly boosted as Deco’s recent meeting with his agent, and since then, he is emerging as an increasingly liked candidate by the club.

In fact, Mundo Deportivo claims that he is being seen as an ideal profile by Barcelona to reinforce their attack, and the Spanish publication’s report has highlighted five reasons why this is the case.

Firstly, the Spaniard’s biggest strength is ability to win in one-on-one situations with his power and explosiveness. With Yamal already present on the right wing to destabilize defences, his arrival would allow Hansi Flick’s team to threaten their opponents from both the wings simultaneously.

Secondly, in addition to the left wing, the Athletic Club forward can also play in the centre or as a second striker. This tactical flexibility has already proven to be important in Flick’s schemes.

Thirdly, Nico enjoys an optimal balance in age, experience, and room for further growth. At 22 years of age, he has a lot of room to develop further as a player. Meanwhile, he has already played 132 games in La Liga and has also playing a prominent part in Spain’s international recent successes.

Fourthly, with a release clause of €58 million, the Spaniard is a relatively affordable option, especially when compared with other candidates that Barcelona are considering, like Luis Diaz.

Lastly, Nico Williams himself is keen to play for the Blaugrana club, and his entourage is doing its part to facilitate a move. Both Joan Laporta and Deco are also convinced by his attitude.

All these attributes make him a highly exciting target for Barcelona. But for now, it remains to be seen how this operation will pan out and where he will be playing next season.
