Thursday’s reports claim that Inter are among the list of clubs potentially interested in a January deal for Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who could be a long-term heir to Yann Sommer in San Siro.

Reports Inter keen on January deal for Meslier

According to reports from TeamTalk, Inter ‘lead the race’ to sign Meslier from Leeds in January.

The French shot stopper is into the final year of his contract at Elland Road, and Leeds are reportedly keen to recoup a small transfer fee in January rather than letting the 25-year-old leave for free at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Meslier has made 215 appearances for Leeds all told, including 107 in the Premier League, but has fallen out of favour at the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign after the summer signing of Brazilian Lucas Perri.

Inter, meanwhile, could also be set to reshuffle their goalkeeping department in the near future.

Sommer’s contract is also due to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season, and at 36 years of age, it remains unlikely that the Swiss veteran is handed an extension.

Inter already have Josep Martinez on their books, who could potentially be the long-term heir to Sommer. However, Thursday’s reports indicate that the Nerazzurri will still look to bring in another goalkeeper next summer, whether that be an understudy or someone who provides competition for Martinez.

TeamTalk claims that Inter see a good opportunity to sign Meslier for a bargain fee in January given his contractual situation in Leeds.
