Royale Union Saint-Gilloise winger Anan Khalaili is reportedly on the verge of joining Serie A champions Inter. According to Calciomercato, the player has already struck a verbal agreement with the Nerazzurri, who must now convince the Belgian outfit to greenlight the deal.
With Denzel Dumfries set to join Real Madrid, Inter must sign a new right-back to fill the void. Despite going to great lengths to convince Marco Palestra to continue his career at San Siro, the Italian prodigy chose Chelsea instead. As a result, Beppe Marotta has had to adjust his search.
Despite being heavily linked with several Serie A stars, including Juventus ace Andrea Cambiaso, Inter have earmarked Khalaili as Dumfries’ heir. Furthermore, they’ve already agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old. Indeed, the Israeli starlet has reportedly accepted a five-year contract worth around €2 million net per season.
Khalaili may not be the most attractive signing on paper, but the Royale Union winger is a star in the making. Last season, he racked up six goals and six assists across 52 appearances in all competitions. Though his numbers are far from flashy, there’s more than meets the eye.
Capable of covering a multitude of positions, Khalaili can operate on both wings, which bodes well for Cristian Chivu’s flexible setup. At 21, he has ample room for improvement and would bring a significant resale value, provided Marotta manages to convince Royale Union to sanction a €25m transfer.
However, the Belgian giants are looking for bonuses on top of that upfront fee, while Inter are unwilling to go beyond this threshold.
