Inter Milan’s quest to sign Udinese ace Oumar Solet has hit a standstill, opening the door for several rival clubs to enter the race for the highly rated defender. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Atletico Madrid could take advantage of the situation to lure the Frenchman to La Liga.
Udinese turned down Inter’s opening bid for their sought-after star, considering the €20 million proposal well below their valuation. Meanwhile, Solet has reportedly agreed personal terms with Inter, as he prepares to take his career to the next step. However, talks between the clubs are currently on stand-by.
With Francesco Acerbi and Matteo Darmian gone, and Stefan de Vrij likely to face the same fate, Inter are desperate to add to their defensive options this summer. Solet has emerged as one of the club’s top targets, alongside Sassuolo starlet Tarik Muharemovic. Yet, they’ve made little progress on either front.
Solet has been on Beppe Marotta’s shortlist for over a year now. However, Inter refused to pursue the former RB Salzburg defender last summer due to his legal issues. Fortunately, those problems are now behind Solet, who seems destined for a high-profile transfer this summer.
At 26, Solet is at the peak of his powers, and there’s little doubt that he’d be a major coup for Inter. However, the reigning Serie A champions have been unable to find an agreement with Udinese, which could boost Atletico Madrid’s hopes of signing the Frenchman.
Unlike Inter, Los Colchoneros could have fewer reservations about matching Udinese’s asking price. Therefore, time has just become a crucial factor in this race.
