Inter Milan have reportedly leapfrogged bitter rivals AC Milan in the race to sign Lazio center-back Mario Gila.
According to Il Messaggero via FCInterNews, the Biancocelesti will make one last attempt to extend the Spaniard’s contract.
Mario Gila has entered the final few months of his contract at the Stadio Olimpico.
Furthermore, Maurizio Sarri’s men have failed to convince him to put pen to paper on a new deal.
And to make matters worse for the underperforming Rome giants, no negotiations are currently underway.
Therefore, AC Milan and Inter are confident of luring the former Real Madrid defender away from the capital in the summer.
Gila earns around €1.6 million net per season at Lazio, a figure well within reach for both Milanese clubs.
However, the Biancocelesti could make a last-ditch attempt to tie their first-team stalwart down to a new contract.
Meanwhile, Inter have already held exploratory talks with the player’s agent to set the groundwork for a potential summer transfer.
In doing so, they have left Milan behind, with Beppe Marotta looking to complete another signature move.
Indeed, Bosman deals have been Marotta’s specialty, with the Inter chief eager to seize another market opportunity.
