Inter target Gianluca Mancini has signed a new deal with Roma, putting speculation linking him with a move to Giuseppe Meazza to bed. According to Roma’s official website, the 30-year-old has extended his contract at the Stadio Olimpico until 2029.

Mancini joined Roma from Atalanta in 2019. After an impressive season-long loan in Italy’s capital, he completed his permanent move to the Giallorossi in 2020. Over the past seven years, he has established himself as a key player for the three-time Serie A champions.

For context, Mancini has made 319 appearances and scored 23 goals across all competitions. Needless to say, he has become one of the fan favorites in the process. Only last season, he appeared in 36 league matches, helping Roma secure their first top-four finish since 2017/18.

On the other hand, Inter had hoped to capitalize on the Italian defender’s expiring contract. Beppe Marotta was looking to bring Mancini to the club to replace Francesco Acerbi, whose contract expired at the end of June. However, Inter must now search for reinforcements elsewhere.

What’s next for Inter?

Strapped for cash, Inter must tread carefully this summer. John Stones could be an exciting option for the reigning Serie A champions after his contract at Manchester City ran out last month. Currently away on World Cup duty with England, Stones has yet to make a final decision on his future.

After ten years at the Etihad Stadium, he would offer the experience, leadership and ball-playing qualities Inter had hoped to secure with Mancini. However, Inter would have to beat several top teams to his signature.

It’s also worth noting that Inter have already missed out on Tarik Muharemovic’s services, with the Bosnian joining Leeds United in a £34 million deal.
