Federico Chiesa Exit Talks Point to Liverpool Summer Reset

Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa is increasingly likely to leave the club this summer, with Caught Offside reporting that a return to Serie A is now firmly on the table.

After a difficult period at Anfield, the Italy international appears to be one of the players who could be moved on as Andoni Iraola begins shaping his squad. Liverpool are expected to make changes after a sharp decline in 2025/26, and Chiesa’s future now looks uncertain.

Caught Offside report that Napoli and Como are showing the strongest interest, with Liverpool likely to seek around €20m for the winger.

Napoli and Como Interest Builds

“Liverpool will be open to offers for Chiesa this summer,” one source said. “There will be further talks between the club and the player in pre-season, but the expectation is that he’ll be informed that he can leave.

“Napoli and Como are keeping an eye on the situation, but Liverpool’s asking price is around €20m, so they might explore the possibility of signing him on loan at first. Liverpool’s preference is a permanent sale, but let’s see if they’re open to discussing a loan with an obligation.”

That position feels logical from Liverpool’s side. A permanent sale would offer clarity, free up squad space and potentially help fund Iraola’s rebuild. A loan, even with an obligation, may only appeal if the structure is strong enough to protect Liverpool’s valuation.

Iraola Faces Early Squad Decisions

Iraola arrives at a club already in transition. Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson and Ibrahima Konate have all departed on free transfers, leaving Liverpool with significant experience to replace.

Chiesa, 28, still offers pedigree, direct running and tactical flexibility, but his Liverpool spell has never quite caught fire. With the club needing reliability, availability and a clearer attacking identity, his place in the squad looks vulnerable.

A €20m asking price is not excessive in the current market, though Italian clubs may still test Liverpool’s patience with loan proposals. For Chiesa, a return to Serie A may also offer the rhythm and status he has struggled to find in England.

Transfer Exit Could Suit All Parties

Liverpool cannot afford sentiment this summer. Iraola needs a squad built around energy, pressing, durability and attacking coherence. Chiesa may still have quality, but if he is not central to those plans, a clean exit could suit everyone.

Caught Offside’s report suggests talks are expected in pre-season, and that should bring more certainty. For now, Chiesa looks like one of the first serious exit cases of Liverpool’s new era.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

This feels like one of those transfers that never quite became what we hoped it would be. Chiesa arrived with a reputation, a name, and memories of a player who once looked capable of deciding the biggest games. Supporters wanted to believe there was still something explosive there.

The problem is that Liverpool are no longer in a position to carry maybes. After the collapse of 2025/26, Iraola needs certainty. He needs legs, intensity, tactical buy-in and players who can handle the pace of a rebuild.

There is sadness in seeing Chiesa potentially drift away without a defining Anfield moment, but there is also realism. If Napoli or Como are serious, and if Liverpool can get close to €20m, then the club should act.

Depth matters, especially after losing Salah, Robertson and Konate, but depth only helps if the player fits the plan. Chiesa may still shine again in Italy. At Liverpool, it increasingly feels like the timing was wrong, the role was unclear and the story never truly started.
