Credit to Sports Boom, whose original report states that Andy Robertson has held talks over a return to Celtic, with the Scotland captain preparing to leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Few modern Liverpool players have embodied commitment, drive and consistency quite like Andy Robertson. If this latest development proves accurate, it would mark the beginning of an emotional farewell to one of the defining figures of the club’s modern era.
According to Sports Boom, discussions have taken place between Robertson’s representatives and Celtic regarding a move back to Glasgow. It is a story that feels logical on several levels.
Robertson’s connection to Celtic has long been part of the conversation. He was released by the club’s academy at 15, a setback that became fuel for one of football’s most impressive rise stories. To return now, after conquering England and Europe, would be a powerful full-circle moment.
Sports Boom notes that such a switch would also give the 32-year-old “the chance to take on a leadership role at Celtic”. That feels especially relevant. Robertson remains a natural organiser, vocal presence and elite professional.

There should be no confusion about his standing at Anfield. Robertson leaves, whenever that moment formally arrives, as one of Liverpool’s great left-backs.
Two Premier League titles, a Champions League, an FA Cup and two League Cups only tell part of the story. His relentless running, sharp delivery, fierce standards and emotional edge helped set the tone for a winning side.
Earlier this season, Robertson said: “I’ve got five months left and we need to see what the option is to stay or if there’s options to go and things like that. I need to sit down with my family and decide.”
That quote now reads like a player carefully weighing one final major decision.
Sports Boom also references interest from Tottenham Hotspur during the winter window. That alone underlines his enduring level.
Charlie Adam was equally clear in his assessment, saying: “For me, I still think he’s the best left-back in the football club. He’s been one of the great Liverpool left-backs over time.”
He added: “I think if you’re any other club in the Premier League, maybe apart from two or three, you’d still be looking to sign Andy Robertson as one of the top left-backs in the league.”
That is hard to dismiss. Even if his peak years have passed, Robertson’s intensity, experience and mentality remain hugely valuable.
Liverpool under Arne Slot are entering a new phase, and difficult squad decisions come with that territory. If Robertson departs this summer, it may be the right moment for both player and club.
Celtic would gain leadership and quality. Liverpool would salute a legend properly. Robertson would return home with nothing left to prove.
Some exits feel abrupt. This one, if handled correctly, could feel complete.
As Liverpool supporters, this one would hurt deeply. Andy Robertson has never been about headlines or glamour. He has been about honesty, heart and standards. Every fan loves players who give everything, and Robertson has done exactly that from day one.
He arrived from Hull City with doubters everywhere and turned himself into one of the finest full-backs in world football. He fought for every yard, celebrated every tackle, and played with the kind of fire supporters instantly connect with.
If the road now leads back to Celtic, there would be sadness, but also pride. Not every player gets to choose an ending that means something personally. Robertson potentially returning to the club where he was once rejected feels poetic.
There is also realism involved. Arne Slot will shape his own squad, and football moves quickly. Liverpool must plan for the next cycle. But replacing personality is often harder than replacing ability. Robertson’s voice in the dressing room, his edge on the pitch and his refusal to accept low standards matter enormously.
When he does go, he deserves a proper Anfield send-off. Full stands, full volume, full appreciation.
Some players win trophies. Others become part of the fabric of the club.
Robertson managed both.
