Manchester United’s summer search for attacking flexibility has taken them towards Crystal Palace forward Ismaila Sarr, with TeamTalk reporting that the club have opened talks with the player’s representatives.
The report states that United “have now made contact with Sarr’s representatives to register their interest and gather further information about his situation,” which suggests this is at the exploratory stage rather than an advanced negotiation.
Sarr, 28, is viewed as a strong fit because of his ability to operate across the frontline. That has become increasingly important for United, particularly with Joshua Zirkzee expected to move on and Marcus Rashford’s future still unresolved.
Sarr’s stock has risen sharply after what TeamTalk describe as “the finest campaign of his career.” He scored nine Premier League goals, 20 in all competitions, and played a major role in Crystal Palace’s historic UEFA Conference League success.
His European impact was significant too, with TeamTalk noting that he finished the competition with nine goals and was voted Player of the Season.

That form has now carried onto the World Cup stage. Senegal exited against Belgium after losing a 2-0 lead late on, but Sarr still ended the tournament with four goals and one assist.
For United, the key detail may be his central role for Senegal. TeamTalk report that he “demonstrated his ability to operate as a central striker,” which has pushed INEOS to take their interest further.
Palace are in a strong position. Sarr only joined in 2024 for less than £15million, but TeamTalk understand the Eagles would now expect to “more than triple that investment” if they were to consider a sale.
With three years remaining on his contract, Palace have little reason to accept a cut-price deal. Juventus are also monitoring the situation, which may add further pressure if United decide to firm up their interest.
New Palace boss Pierre Sage would surely prefer to keep his standout attacker, particularly after such a productive season for club and country.
Crysencio Summerville has also been watched by United, but TeamTalk suggest Sarr “may well have overtaken the Dutchman on their wishlist.”
That is the intriguing part. United still need midfielders, and finances remain under close scrutiny, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe determined to control transfer costs and wages.
Sarr offers proven Premier League output, European pedigree, pace, directness and positional variety. The question is whether United can justify paying a major fee for a player who would arrive at 28, especially when Palace are expected to demand a substantial profit.
From a Manchester United perspective, this one is interesting because Sarr feels like the sort of player who solves several problems without necessarily being the glamorous name fans crave.
He has Premier League experience, he has just delivered 20 goals in all competitions, and he has shown he can handle big moments. That matters. United have signed plenty of players in recent years who looked exciting on paper but needed time, patience and structure. Sarr would not arrive as a project.
The concern is the fee. If Palace want more than three times what they paid, United could be looking at a very expensive deal for a 28-year-old forward. That does not make it wrong, but it does make the margin for error smaller.
There is also a tactical argument in his favour. If Zirkzee leaves and Rashford’s situation drags on, United need a forward who can play wide, run in behind and cover centrally. Sarr ticks those boxes.
For me, this feels like a sensible football idea at the right price, but a risky one if Palace push the valuation too high. United need sharp recruitment, not another summer of paying the premium after a player’s best season.
