Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz could reportedly return to Milan to replace the exit-bound Rafael Leao. According to Corriere della Sera via Calciomercato, the Rossoneri are contemplating a shock reunion with the Morocco international after missing out on Konstantinos Karetsas.
Karetsas had been Milan’s top target, only for Borussia Dortmund to beat the San Siro giants to the punch, paying Genk around €33 million to secure the 18-year-old’s signature. As a result, the 19-time Italian champions must now explore other alternatives.
Indeed, Ruben Amorim’s men are preparing for life after Rafael Leao. The Portuguese winger is ready to end his seven-year stint in Serie A, with Fenerbahce and Galatasaray going head-to-head in the race to sign the 27-year-old.
Despite his initial preference for a move to either the Premier League or La Liga, a lack of concrete offers from those leagues has forced Leao to entertain Turkey as a realistic option. Meanwhile, Milan have set their sights on Diaz.
Diaz is no stranger to Milan. He spent three years at San Siro between 2020 and 2023 before returning to Spain’s capital, racking up 18 goals and 15 assists in 124 games for the Rossoneri. Furthermore, he was part of Stefano Pioli’s team to win the Scudetto in 2022.
Therefore, the appeal is simple. Diaz requires minimal adaptation, knows the environment inside out, but Real Madrid’s asking price could be a stumbling block. He remains under contract at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2027, which could work in Milan’s favor.
Overall, this could be a decent deal for Milan.
