Milan talisman Rafael Leao is facing an uncertain future. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, no club has made a concrete offer for the quicksilver forward despite Milan’s readiness to cash in on their wantaway star.
Leao endured an underwhelming 2025/26 season under Massimiliano Allegri. He netted just ten goals in 31 appearances in all competitions, falling well short of his high standard. Frustrated with another disappointing campaign, the 27-year-old requested a transfer at the end of the season.
Though Milan seemed willing to grant his wish, a lack of suitors could force the former Lille winger to stay at San Siro. Leao’s contract runs until 2028, and the Rossoneri won’t sell him for less than €60 million, even though his price tag plummeted on the back of another lackluster campaign.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly keen on the Portuguese ace. However, they’ve yet to open talks with Milan, and by the looks of things, Leao could be left in limbo as the transfer window gathers pace.
Leao’s €7 million wages make him one of Serie A’s highest earners. That’s one of the reasons why Milan are open to letting him leave. However, Ruben Amorim’s arrival could help revive Leao’s career at San Siro if he ends up staying at the club.
Indeed, Amorim’s dynamic, attack-minded system could be tailor-made for Leao, offering the Portuguese star a chance to rediscover the form that once made him one of Europe’s most sought-after wingers.
This situation could eventually prove a blessing in disguise for both Milan and Leao.
