Napoli talisman Scott McTominay could reportedly make a mouth-watering move to Real Madrid this summer. According to the Daily Record, Jose Mourinho is considering a reunion with his former Manchester United pupil at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Mourinho gave McTominay his senior debut at Old Trafford nine years ago and has reportedly remained an admirer of the Scottish midfielder. Now that he has returned to his old stomping ground, the ‘Special One’ could offer the 29-year-old an opportunity to wear the coveted white shirt.

Despite his underwhelming performances at the World Cup, McTominay’s skills remain in high demand. Meanwhile, Napoli have no intention of letting their standout star leave, although a bumper fee could change Aurelio De Laurentiis’ mind. At least that’s what Mourinho is banking on.

Indeed, Los Blancos may need to offer up to £80 million to get Napoli’s go-ahead. However, the player’s World Cup no-show begs the question whether Real Madrid would be overpaying for his services. Moreover, Napoli are likely to do everything to hold onto the 2024/25 Scudetto winner.

Our take on Napoli & McTominay

McTominay won the MVP award for his stellar first season in Serie A as he helped Napoli wrestle back the title from Inter. Though he performed slightly below that standard last season, he still netted ten goals and added three assists in 33 league matches, reinforcing his value to the Partenopei.

With that in mind, it’s hard to expect De Laurentiis to sanction his sale without receiving a monstrous offer. Furthermore, McTominay’s contract runs until 2030, which puts Napoli in a strong negotiating position. There’s a feeling that they’d rather let Stanislav Lobotka join Juventus than sever ties with the Scottish ace.
