Report – Reason behind Mbappe’s absence for Real Madrid against Real Sociedad | OneFootball

Real Madrid are all set to take on Real Sociedad later tonight in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final away at the Reale Arena.

Ahead of the trip to San Sebastian, Real Madrid announced the squad list of players that will be available for Carlo Ancelotti on the night with some major absentees.

As expected, both Thibaut Courtois and Federico Valverde were left behind as the manager planned to give the superstar duo a rest for the contest.

Another big-name player missing from the list was key forward Kylian Mbappe.

Indeed, Mbappe, who has been Real Madrid’s in-form attacker in recent weeks, has been left behind by Ancelotti for their trip to face Real Sociedad.

Providing an update on the reason for the 26-year-old’s exclusion, The Athletic’s Guillermo Rai reports that the Frenchman had a bad night on Tuesday due to pain from a tooth extraction procedure he underwent this week.

It must be remembered that Mbappe did not train with the squad on Tuesday due to the dental issue. And seemingly, the former PSG superstar had a rough night because the pain from the procedure did not ease up overnight.

As such, Ancelotti, along with the club, decided to give Mbappe a rest for the game against Real Sociedad tonight.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is not injured and is expected to be ready and available for the weekend La Liga clash against Real Betis before they take on Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 next week.

Since joining Real Madrid in the summer, Mbappe has netted 28 goals across all competitions, including two hat-tricks against Real Valladolid and Manchester City.
