Atalanta striker Gianluca Scamacca has emerged as one of Gian Piero Gasperini’s highest priorities for Roma this summer. However, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the move is unlikely to materialize.
It has been three years since Scamacca returned to Italian football. Indeed, Atalanta paid West Ham United around €23 million to secure his signature in 2023. Furthermore, the 27-year-old has immediately established himself as one of La Dea’s standout performers.
Unfortunately, Scamacca has suffered several serious injuries over the past 24 months. He missed the start of the 2025/26 season due to a knee issue, which allowed Nikola Krstovic to climb in the pecking order. Nonetheless, the former Sassuolo star finished the season with 14 goals and three assists in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Gasperini, who signed Scamacca three years ago, is reportedly keen to reunite with the skilled center-forward at Roma. Despite purchasing Donyell Malen from Aston Villa, the veteran coach is keen to recruit an out-and-out striker now that the Giallorossi have earned their seat at Europe’s top table after seven years.
Gasperini needs a prolific goalscorer to boost Roma’s chances in the UEFA Champions League. Naturally, he has turned to a familiar face for the role, but his effort to sign Scamacca is likely to go in vain.
With Atalanta set to appoint Maurizio Sarri as the new manager, Scamacca’s status at the New Balance Arena is not going to change. Instead, he will remain one of the most influential figures in Bergamo.
La Dea will not negotiate his sale under any circumstances, even though he has just over a year left on his contract. Therefore, Roma may have to revisit their interest in Fiorentina talisman Moise Kean.
