Barcelona may not be actively searching for a new goalkeeper this summer, but a developing situation at Real Sociedad is putting Alex Remiro back on the radar.
According to SPORT, internal dynamics at Sociedad could force a shift that benefits Barcelona even if the position is not currently seen as a priority.
On paper, the hierarchy in San Sebastian is clear.
Remiro remains the undisputed number one, while Unai Marrero has been operating as the backup, primarily featuring in cup competitions.
But that structure is no longer as stable as it once seemed, as Marrero’s recent performances have started to change the conversation.
Marrero’s standout display in the Copa del Rey final against Atletico Madrid, where he saved two penalties, has significantly boosted his standing within the club.
It was the kind of performance that forces decision-makers to rethink long-term plans and that is where things begin to shift for Remiro.
Despite being under contract until 2027, his future is no longer completely secure. Interest from across Europe has been growing, and Barcelona are among the clubs keeping a close eye on the situation.

In fact, as reported before, sporting director Deco has already held discussions with the goalkeeper’s representatives to better understand his contractual position and how a potential move could fit into Barça’s long-term planning.
Barcelona have tracked Remiro for some time, appreciating his consistency, composure, and experience in La Liga.
Now, with uncertainty creeping into his situation at Sociedad, an opportunity could present itself, particularly from a financial standpoint.
His current release clause is set at around €70 million, but circumstances could force Sociedad into negotiations at a lower figure since there is a possibility that he can leave for free next year.
Furthermore, Marrero’s emergence gives the club a safety net, reducing the risk of losing their first-choice goalkeeper and potentially encouraging them to listen to offers.
For Barcelona, that changes the equation.
Even though the goalkeeping position is not an immediate concern, opportunities like this are difficult to ignore, especially when it involves a proven La Liga performer.
