Manchester United reportedly look to have the advantage in the race for the transfer of Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku at the moment.

The France international has also been eyed by Bayern Munich this January, but the latest info from Florian Plettenberg suggests that one issue with that deal is that Mathys Tel isn’t currently considering a move to Stamford Bridge.

A deal seeing Nkunku and Tel swapping places could have made sense for all parties involved, but it doesn’t currently look like being on the cards, according to the Sky Germany journalist, so that could be good news for Man Utd.

See below for Plettenberg’s post as he says the Red Devils remain in contact over a possible move for Nkunku…

Nkunku is a top talent on his day, and could be ideal to give United something different up front after the struggles of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, while Marcus Rashford has recently completely fallen out of favour with Ruben Amorim.

It seems nothing is close to being done yet, but this looks like being one to watch for United in the final days of the January window.

Should Chelsea really be letting Christopher Nkunku join a rival like Man United?

Nkunku has not quite shown his best form in a Chelsea shirt, despite looking like having world class potential during his time at former club RB Leipzig.

One issue for the 27-year-old has been injuries, but he’s also arguably been harshly overlooked by Enzo Maresca at times, with Nicolas Jackson emerging as the clear first choice up front.

Despite that, Nkunku has still managed a decent tally of 14 goals in all competitions for club and country this season, showing that he remains someone capable of making an impact even with limited playing time.

One imagines Nkunku could revive his career at Old Trafford and there’ll be a few figures at Chelsea left red-faced for letting him go and sticking with Jackson instead.
