The Jorge Sampaoli era at Rennes is over after just over two months in charge. The Argentine manager arrived in Brittany in early November to replace the dismissed Julien Stéphan. The former Marseille and Sevilla head coach has been dismissed this Thursday. Habib Beye will replace Sampaoli in the dugout. This Friday, the former Newcastle United right-back has been formally introduced to the media alongside club president Arnaud Pouille and Sporting Director Frederic Massara. Pouille and Massara have both acknowledged Sampaoli’s contributions and thanked him for his services.
Sampaoli oversaw ten games as Rennes head coach and he lost seven of them. Rennes notably lost their last five games in all competitions. He took Les Rouge et Noir from 11th to 16th in the Ligue 1 standings. “We didn’t have the results we were hoping for so we mutually decided to carry on no longer“, Massara said in a press conference attended by Get French Football News. “The conditions were no longer met for him to continue“, Pouille added. “He embodied the energy needed for an electroshock, it must be noted that it did not happen. Results speak for themselves.“
