FC Bayern have not only knocked Real Madrid out of the Champions League in sporting terms – the Munich team have apparently also destroyed a special motivation plan of the royals

As the Spanish sports newspaper AS reports, Real president Florentino Pérez promised his players a special bonus before the quarter-final second leg against FC Bayern, according to which each player would have received an additional 500,000 euros if they had progressed

Real put all their eggs in one basket against Bayern

The extra bonus shows just how important the clash with the German record champions was for the Madrilenians. According to AS, the Champions League was seen internally as the last realistic chance of a title in the 2025/26 season. Accordingly, Pérez and the Real board are said to have resorted to a measure that has rarely been seen in this form recently

Such bonus payments used to be a regular feature at the Whites, but they have largely been abolished in recent years

Real apparently made an exception before the Bayern duel, as the financial outlay would have remained manageable for Real despite the large sums involved

According to the report, the madridistas had in any case only calculated with income up to the quarter-finals. A place in the semi-finals would have brought in additional UEFA bonuses, which would have even exceeded the bonus payments to the team

But this did not happen

After the 3-2 defeat in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu, Real also lost the second leg against Munich

In a spectacular 4:3 draw, the Whites sniffed extra time for a long time and led 3:2 shortly before the end, before Luis Díaz and Michael Olise finally decided the game in Bayern’s favour with two late goals

Season without a title for Real Madrid

The defeat to FC Bayern had far-reaching consequences for Real, who will in all likelihood end the 2025/26 season without a title – a scenario that traditionally causes great unrest in Madrid

The loss of the Bayern bonus will now be all the more bitter for the stars.
