FC Barcelona’s agreement to sign Jesse Bisiwu from Club Brugge is now fully agreed, with the club securing one of their most highly rated young targets on improved terms compared with earlier demands.

The 18-year-old winger is expected to sign a five-year contract once the remaining paperwork is completed, bringing an end to a pursuit that has lasted for months.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will pay €8.5 million for Bisiwu, while Club Brugge will retain 20 per cent of any future sale.

Those numbers are notably better for Barca than some of the figures previously discussed during negotiations.

Reports from Belgium had earlier suggested that Club Brugge were seeking around €10 million, while the sell-on clause being discussed was said to be between 30 and 40 per cent.

Barcelona have managed to reduce both elements.

The final agreement stands at €8.5 million and a 20 per cent sell-on clause, giving the Blaugrana more protection if Bisiwu eventually develops into a high-value first-team player.

That is important because this is still a significant investment in an 18-year-old who has yet to establish himself at senior level.

The deal reflects the confidence Deco and scouting chief Joao Amaral have in his potential.

Flick will decide Bisiwu’s immediate role

Bisiwu is expected to join Barcelona as soon as the documentation is completed, with the club hoping he can travel to England for Hansi Flick’s pre-season camp at St George’s Park between July 27 and August 3.

That period could determine whether he remains with the first team or initially joins Barca Atletic.

For Barcelona, that is the right approach.

Bisiwu has the physical profile, technical quality and one-on-one ability to generate real excitement, but his development should not be rushed simply because of the fee.

The most encouraging part of the operation is that Barca stayed firm throughout the negotiations. They improved the financial conditions while still landing a player who strongly wanted the move.

At €8.5 million, the gamble is still meaningful. However, with a five-year deal and a lower sell-on percentage, Barcelona have structured the operation in a way that gives them considerably more upside if Bisiwu becomes the player Deco believes he can be.
