Inter Milan have reportedly decided to put contract renewal talks with veteran midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan on hold. 

According to Tuttosport via FCInter1908, the Nerazzurri will not discuss an extension until the end of the season.

Currently sidelined with a muscle injury, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is hoping to recover for Inter’s trip to Como next month.

Indeed, Cristian Chivu will not be able to call upon the 37-year-old for the upcoming clash against bitter rivals Roma.

However, the former Arsenal and Manchester United star is likely to return to action in mid-April.

Inter Milan Pause Contract Renewal Talks with Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Mkhitaryan is one of several first-team stars whose contracts run out in June.

Despite being in the autumn of his playing career, the Armenian remains one of Inter’s most consistent performers.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri are reluctant to write him off just yet.

However, Mkhitaryan could decide to hang up his boots at the end of the season.

As such, Inter must wait for the player’s decision before resuming negotiations on a potential contract extension.

Furthermore, he has recently proved to be prone to injury, which is another reason why Inter are cautious about committing to a new deal at this stage.
