Everton were right in the mix to be active in the summer transfer window of 2025, after a disastrous performance in the last season. They bid goodbye to Goodison Park and finished mid-table in the 2024/25 season.
Hence, the Toffees were definitely entering a new era. Under the Friedkin Group and with David Moyes as the manager, the club was looking for a change and strengthening of their roster in the transfer window. This window was different in many ways, as the club valued energy and youthful enthusiasm more than experience this time.
The permanent deal of Charly Alcaraz from Flamengo early on indicated that the highlights of last season would be carried forward. Thierno Barry from Villarreal and Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich further strengthened this thinking as both clearly have glimpses of the future.
However, the biggest name was Jack Grealish, who was brought in on loan from Manchester City. He proved that he can make an immediate difference by giving four assists in three games. Everton are now planning to buy him permanently, which, if successful, would be a huge move in the long term.

The arrival of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea and German Under-21 midfielder Merlin Röhl has given the team freshness in midfield. Röhl’s arrival on loan on deadline day was a highlight of the window.
Yet not everything has been perfect. Problems with the right side of the defence remain. Seamus Coleman is struggling with age, and Nathan Patterson has struggled with form. Meanwhile, Jarrad Branthwaite’s injury has only made matters worse, forcing Jake O’Brien to shift to centre-back.
The bid to sign Victor Lindelof on a free also went unfulfilled as he moved to Aston Villa. Moreover, losing Youssef Chermiti permanently to Rangers has also raised questions about the striker depth, although Barry and Beto are still expected to be successful.
Overall, Everton’s window is worth a 7/10. The club made some great deals and added new energy to the squad, but the lack of a quality right-back and some missed opportunities make the picture less than perfect. Still, if Grealish’s permanent deal is confirmed, this window will be remembered for a long time.
