RFEF want Luis de la Fuente to stay until 2030 | OneFootball

According to Superdeporte, the Spanish federation intend to extend Luis de la Fuente’s deal beyond 2028 to cover the 2030 World Cup, co-hosted by Spain, Morocco and Portugal. He is seen as one of this World Cup’s standout winners.

Rafael Louzán handled his first renewal on taking office, backing De la Fuente early as a side was built that won the European Championship, a surprise to many after a bold generational reset.

He later consolidated his position and agreed terms to 2028 before the World Cup, then delivered Spain’s second star in emphatic fashion. His continuity is set through Euro 2028 in Great Britain, though the federation want to keep him longer.

De la Fuente is attracting interest but is seen as loyal, so there should not be major issues agreeing terms. Louzán wants the summer to pass, yet aims to settle it quickly for certainty.

The plan is a two-year extension for De la Fuente and his staff, maintaining continuity to a key date for the federation. Spain will defend the title in 2030 as hosts, so steady preparation is considered important.

Asked publicly about his future, De la Fuente has avoided going further and the matter is expected to be handled calmly and confidentially. Appointed on 12 December 2022 to replace Luis Enrique, he is nearing four years in charge and could reach eight if all goes to plan, with a settled core likely at Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup. There is confidence of more success.
