Former Leicester City captain Ricardo Pereira is attracting interest from Brazilian clubs Botafogo and Gremio after his departure last month. Gazeta Botafogo reports that Botafogo have joined Gremio in pursuit of the 32-year-old right-back.
Pereira ended an eight-year stay at the King Power Stadium when his contract expired. Signed for £25 million in 2018, the ex-Portugal international lifted the FA Cup, Community Shield and Championship with Leicester.
His European pedigree is said to appeal to Botafogo head coach Franclim Carvalho and Gremio boss Luis Castro, and Gremio are said to have made inquiries to his representatives.
After spending his entire career in Europe, those close to the player are described as excited by the prospect of a move to Brazil. No agreement has been reached and discussions are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
Pereira bade farewell at the King Power in May, expressing pride in the highs and lows of his eight years. He thanked supporters, team-mates and staff, said he always gave his best, and added he will keep following Leicester.
