Ryan Gravenberch has extended his Liverpool contract

Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have all had questions asked about their futures over the last few weeks.

The latter of the two have been linked with Real Madrid for as long as many can remember and, with the number of midfielders being linked to Liverpool at the moment, it's hardly surprising to see Hughes wanting to lock down some of Liverpool's best players.

Although advancements haven't been made regarding Szoboszlai or Mac Allister's contracts just yet, Gravenberch has agreed an extension to his Anfield stint.

Although Gravenberch was unlikely to leave Liverpool in the first place, it will help reassure Liverpool fans that their current crop of players are buying into the project.

Many questions have beena sked about whether the Anfield outfit have what it takes to compete with the world's best teams year after year, especially after the rut they've been through this season.

However, if players such as Gravenberch are agreeing to extend their stays without any sort of hassle, it surely means that the likes of Szoboszlai and Mac Allister will follow suit.

Of course, there have been times when fans have wanted some new players to feature for Liverpool but, on the face of things, it's clear that Slot's current first-team squad is filled to the brim with talent.

The fact that the midfielder's contract extension has been agreed with no hassle proves that Liverpool only want the best for their players and that they want to keep fighting for all the silverware possible.

However, now that the Dutchman has been handed this new deal, it's down to him to prove that he's worth the pay rise.

Last season the former Bayern Munich man was one of Liverpool's best players and, while he may have impressed every now and then this term, it feels like he's a fraction of his former self.

However, now that his future is secured until the 2031-32 campaign he has to get back to his best and prove why he was the Premier League's best defensive midfielder last term.

Otherwise, Hughes and Arne Slot may question why they extended his stay in the first place.
