Liverpool's first-team squad is going to look completely different by the time the 2026-27 season kicks off.

Andoni Iraola is already a new face among the Reds' ranks and, since they've already welcomed Victor Munoz, change is already afoot.

However, for new players to be brought in, Liverpool will probably need to move some of the current members of their team on to generate some funds.

As, even though they're one of the most well-known clubs in the world, they still operate a sell-to-buy model.

This model has obviously worked well for them but, since they've fallen quite far behind their title rivals this term which means they can't really afford to move anyone on.

But, if they have to, it's clear that every player now has a price.

Liverpool now want £40 million to let Curtis Jones leave Anfield

Curtis Jones' future is still undecided.

The Englishman was almost guaranteed to exit Anfield when Arne Slot was in charge but, now that Andoni Iraola has taken over, he's been given a fresh chance to prove his worth.

The way that Jones plays is perfectly suited to Iraola's system but, since he was hardly played in his natural position by Slot, he's wanting to try something new.

And, even though Liverpool could make room for him in their plans, the bridges may have already been burned, especially if this latest update from Ben Jacobs is to be believed.

"Curtis Jones is a target for Nottingham Forest," he wrote.

"Liverpool aware of the Forest interest as Vitor Pereira’s side look to strengthen in the centre of the park following the £116m departure of Elliot Anderson.

"Inter recently saw a £21.5m approach instantly shut down.

"Liverpool value Jones in the region of £40m, and it is unclear whether Forest are prepared to go that high.

"Liverpool are content to keep hold of Jones if their asking price is not met.

"Jones is heading into the final year of his contract but should he remain beyond this summer, talks over a new contract are not ruled out.

"Forest also have Spurs’ Lucas Bergvall high in their thinking. The Swedish midfielder has asked the club to leave as he seeks a new challenge."

Liverpool must make a decision over Curtis Jones soon

If Liverpool want him to, Jones could become a key part of Iraola's plans.

As mentioned, he's perfectly suited to Iraola's system and, for £40 million, there's no way that they'd find anyone better than the Englishman.

Players such as Alex Scott and Eduardo Camavinga have both been linked as potential options but, both would cost an awful lot more than the £40 million they'd get from Jones' sale.

And, since the Reds already have so many areas among their ranks that need upgrading, having one less to think about would certainly be helpful.

But, if they do want to move him on, they need to do so as soon as possible so that they can focus on bringing a new player in to replace him.

There's no knowing what the future has in store for anyone but, at the moment, it feels like the Reds would be making a mistake by selling him.
