Manchester City full-back Rico Lewis (20) has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2030, further cementing his role as one of the club’s brightest academy graduates.
As reported by BBC Sport, the 20-year-old, already capped five times by England, extends his stay by two years after previously agreeing terms through to 2028. Since making his debut in August 2022, Lewis has quickly established himself as a versatile and dependable figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad, amassing 97 senior appearances in just over two seasons.
Comfortable at right-back or in midfield, Lewis has played a key role in City’s sustained dominance, contributing to two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, the Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
“I have spent so much of my life at this club. City means everything to me, so to be able to stay longer makes me incredibly happy,” Lewis said. “I am still improving and developing, and working with Pep, his coaching staff, and this amazing squad will only help me get better.”
Lewis was initially linked with a move away from the club in the summer, with Nottingham Forest said to be interested in the full-back. However, City see Lewis as central to their long-term plans, with the contract securing one of English football’s most promising young talents for the next five years.
