Trent Alexander-Arnold’s career at Liverpool looks set to come to an end, with a free transfer to Spanish side Real Madrid expected in the coming months.

The 26-year-old’s departure will be a blow for the Reds and manager Arne Slot, who will feel aggrieved to be losing a player of Alexander-Arnold’s quality without receiving a fee.

However, it is not all doom and gloom for the runaway Premier League leaders, with plenty of options on the market to try and lure to Merseyside this summer.

Here are some potential right backs that Liverpool could sign to replace Alexander-Arnold:

Djed Spence

After a couple of seasons out in the wilderness, Djed Spence’s emergence in the Tottenham team has been a revelation. The 24-year-old has had a breakthrough campaign for Ange Postecoglou’s side, with the north Londoners’ league position not reflective of the quality of performance Spence has been putting in. Whilst he lacks Alexander-Arnold’s creative and goalscoring output, the former Nottingham Forest player has been superb defensively and his ball carrying to break out the defensive line has been impressive.

Jeremie Frimpong

A Bundlesliga champion and Dutch international, Jeremie Frimpong is arguably the only right back in world football that can match Alexander-Arnold’s attacking output. The 24-year-old is having a strong season at Bayer Leverkusen, with four goals and five assists in the Bundesliga. One issue with Frimpong is he is a far better attacking player than defender, as manager Xabi Alonso utilises him as an attacking wingback. A reported €40 million release clause might be too good not to pursue for the Reds.

Daniel Munoz

The oldest player on this list at 28, Daniel Munoz has shown this season that he looks ready to step up to a bigger side after impressive performances for Crystal Palace. The Colombian international, who has also been utilised as an attacking wingback by manager Oliver Glasner, is superb in ball recovery and has been a key factor in Palace’s rise up the table after a horrendous start. Age might be a factor in this move not happening.

Vanderson

A Brazilian international, AS Monaco’s Vanderson has been one of the best defensive fullbacks this season, with the 23-year-old extremely strong in ground duels, rarely committing fouls. Whilst his attacking output is lacking, Vanderson is very reliable in possession, something that what suit Arne Slot’s side. His versatility is also a useful asset, being able to play left back and right wingback, but his strongest position is at right fullback.

Conor Bradley

It would be silly for Liverpool not to consider replacing their star right back with his understudy. There was much hype towards Conor Bradley when he burst onto the scene under Jurgen Klopp last season when Alexander-Arnold was absent. The 21-year-old has yet to kick on this season, struggling for game time and fitness, but on his day has all the hallmarks of a top right back. The Northern Irishman’s injury struggles continue to be an issue, currently sidelined with a hamstring problem.
