After edging Liverpool 2-1 last Tuesday night at Anfield, Paris Saint-Germain now turn their attention to another Premier League opponent, Aston Villa, with a spot in the semifinals on the line.
PSG battled past Liverpool in a tight contest, ultimately needing a penalty shootout to advance. Meanwhile, Aston Villa had a far smoother path, dominating Club Brugge 6-1 on aggregate in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
The English side took the first leg 3-1 last Wednesday, and the second leg went into extra time. Marco Asensio, on loan from PSG, scored twice, while Ian Maatsen added another in a 3-0 win to seal the tie.

Ahead of the tie next month, TNT Sports’ Rio Ferdinand made a bold claim about PSG that should put Aston Villa on notice. After seeing what the Parisians did to Liverpool, who topped the league phase, Ferdinand tells other clubs to watch out for the Parisians.
“I’ve seen wonderful individuals at PSG, world-class players, superstars, Galácticos,” Ferdinand said (h/t Paris Fans). “But I have never seen a team so in sync with each other, sacrificing until the last man.
“In the past, there were always two or three players who, when they didn’t have the ball, were a bit detached from the rest of the team. They only really showed up when they got the ball. They can crush any team, and if you let them dominate possession, they will do it brilliantly. But even without the ball, they can be incredibly effective in transitions.”
