River Plate-URU seeks 100,000 dollars from Grêmio, could go to FIFA over Arezo | OneFootball

According to Globo.com, Grêmio are due to be served notice on Monday over an outstanding payment owed to River Plate-URU relating to Arezo. If the sum is not paid, the Uruguayan club could take the case to FIFA, a move that can lead to a transfer ban preventing new signings until the debt is cleared.

River Plate-URU is claiming 100,000 dollars, its 50 percent share from the renewal of Arezo’s loan to Peñarol until the end of this season. Grêmio charged 400,000 dollars for the extension, payable in two instalments.

The club from Rio Grande do Sul had 15 days to pay River Plate-URU from the moment it received the money from Peñarol. Half of one instalment has been overdue for about 30 days, and the other falls due in June.

Grêmio’s hierarchy believe they can settle the balance before any sanction and are not overly concerned. They view the figure as small and expect the matter to be resolved quickly.

In January, Grêmio paid 151,500 euros, then worth R$ 943.8 thousand, to River Plate-URU for Arezo’s first loan to Peñarol, which avoided a transfer ban.
