River will face Flamengo in a pre-season friendly in Portugal on 3 July as they step up preparations for the second half of the season.

The club said in a post that the fixture forms part of their build-up. It will be staged at Estadio Algarve in the Faro region, with kick-off at 15:30 Argentina time.

It forms part of the European pre-season overseen by Eduardo Coudet in the coming weeks.

River plan to base themselves in Alicante, Spain, to carry out physical and football work before official competitions restart.

The meeting with Flamengo is among the main attractions of the trip, bringing together two leading South American clubs and regular Copa Libertadores protagonists.

For Flamengo, it offers a chance to add international match practice during their competitive calendar.

Estadio Algarve regularly hosts international friendlies and serves as a base for European teams during preparation periods.
