Rob Edwards says Matt Doherty was omitted from Wolves’ squad because of an ongoing knee problem, with the club choosing not to risk him.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the defender has been managing the issue since before Edwards arrived in November. Out of contract this summer, today’s meeting with Fulham could have been his final chance to play at Molineux.

Edwards would not be drawn on Doherty’s future, stressing the focus is on settling the knee down over the next couple of weeks. He added the player has felt it for a long time and has played through it.

The head coach made four changes for the Fulham game, including a recall for Jose Sa after an ankle injury. He said Sa missed the last couple of games and staff worked to get him back for these two.

He described Sa as a big player and said the selection was based solely on what they felt would win the game.
