Rob Edwards says he remains confident of turning Wolves’ fortunes despite a worsening relationship with supporters and relegation already confirmed.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the head coach faced derogatory chants from some in the South Bank after heading straight down the tunnel at full-time. He had previously promised to acknowledge supporters win or lose, and later said he stayed off the pitch to avoid further anger at Molineux.
On the pitch, Nordi Mukiele headed Sunderland into an early lead. Dan Ballard was then sent off for pulling Tolu Arokodare’s hair, the second opposing player this season to be dismissed for that offence. Santiago Bueno equalised with a second half header and Wolves could not find a winner in the 1-1 draw.
Edwards accepted there is little he can say now to sway supporters, stressing the priority is to keep heads down and work to try to turn results.
He said speaking with Matt Jackson or Nathan Shi leaves him confident improvement is possible. He described feeling energised by the challenge and looked ahead to a time when successive wins allow more positive conversations, while acknowledging it would take time.
