According to Fabrizio Romano, Robert Lewandowski has reached a definitive agreement to join Chicago Fire for next season. The contract is expected to be signed next week after the striker confirmed his Barcelona farewell.
The 37-year-old is set to begin a new chapter in MLS after concluding talks with the Illinois club. Two weeks ago he visited Chicago with his agent Pini Zahavi to see the city and the club’s facilities, a trip viewed as decisive in his approval of the move.
He is expected to travel to the United States shortly to sign with Chicago Fire and to settle in the city with his wife Anna Lewandowska and their two daughters. His arrival would be a statement for the club as they target a competitive step forward.
The agreement is understood to span two seasons with wages of around 20 million dollars per year. Despite richer proposals from Saudi Arabia, the Poland international has prioritised embarking on this project in Chicago.
In a farewell message, Lewandowski said it was time to move on after four demanding years and that he leaves feeling the mission is complete. He reflected on four seasons and three titles, thanked supporters for their affection, called Catalunya his place on earth and singled out president Joan Laporta for special thanks.
