Not every player earns a place among the world’s football elite. Roberto Alvarado accomplished exactly that at the FIFA World Cup 2026, where he not only emerged as one of Mexico’s most influential players, but also stood alongside some of the biggest stars in international football thanks to his outstanding ability to create attacking opportunities.
At the conclusion of the tournament, FIFA ranked the Chivas attacker 10th in its FIFA Power Rankings – Creativity category, a distinction that recognizes players capable of combining exceptional vision with precise execution to elevate their team’s attacking play.
The honor carries even greater significance considering the caliber of players featured on the list. Alvarado appears alongside names such as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Lamine Yamal, Michael Olise, Jérémy Doku, Dani Olmo and Alex Baena, all of whom starred on football’s biggest stage while representing some of the world’s top clubs.
The Guadalajara forward’s impact extended beyond chance creation. His influence was also reflected in the attacking statistics, as he finished the tournament tied for seventh in assists with three. He shared that mark with Florian Wirtz and Bukayo Saka, trailing only Michael Olise (7), Lionel Messi (4), Kylian Mbappé (4), Bruno Guimarães (4), Martin Ødegaard (4) and Brahim Díaz (4).
Those three assists also earned Alvarado a place in Mexican football history, as he became Mexico’s all-time leading assist provider in FIFA World Cup history. His performance not only established him as one of El Tri’s primary playmakers throughout the 2026 edition, but also set a new benchmark for the Selección Mexicana on football’s biggest international stage.
For Chivas, this recognition is outstanding news ahead of the Apertura 2026. After delivering an exceptional FIFA World Cup campaign and cementing his status as one of Mexico’s key figures, Roberto Alvarado returned to the Rebaño Sagrado as one of the players expected to make a decisive impact within Gabriel Milito’s footballing philosophy.
