Robin Risser has completed France’s traditional singing initiation, stepping up despite admitting it is not his thing. The young goalkeeper can now put the ritual behind him.

According to Le Progres, he performed Tiakola’s track Meuda on Friday, water bottle in hand, with a video from the FFF showing his awkwardness as team-mates offered polite applause.

Earlier in the week at Clairefontaine, the 21-year-old said singing was not where he felt most at ease. He does not particularly enjoy it, but accepted it is part of the game and that newcomers have to go through it.

He added it had never appealed to him and that, once he is more senior, he would aim to scrap the custom to spare future arrivals the heavy task. For now, he noted, it lasts a minute to a minute and a half, then you are done.

With his initiation ticked off, Risser can look ahead calmly to the 2026 World Cup, his first major international tournament.
