Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie has publicly backed Givairo Read to complete a move to Manchester City or Bayern Munich this summer.
Manchester City have been tracking Read since November 2025, when a City official was reported to have travelled to the Netherlands to watch him in action.
More recently, Dutch outlet 1908.nl have reported both City and Bayern Munich‘s serious interest, with Feyenoord’s technical director Dennis te Kloese understood to be targeting a club-record sale in excess of €32 million for the Netherlands U21 international.

Read joined Feyenoord on a free transfer in July 2023 and has made 51 appearances for the club, though an injury-interrupted season limited him to 13 Eredivisie appearances this term after hamstring problems struck in November 2025 and January.
Speaking to reporters prior to Feyenoord‘s 2-1 win over Fortuna Sittard last week, Van Persie offered a glowing character assessment of the 19-year-old and a clear endorsement of his readiness for a top-level transfer.
“Everyone knows what I think about Read. We have known each other since our youth days,” as reported by Sport Witness.
“As a person, I think he is a really great example of how you can always remain yourself, no matter what happens or how well you are performing.
“He is still exactly the same boy as he was three years ago. You see some players change because of status or money, but that is absolutely not the case with Givi (Read). I think that is really great to see.
“As a player, he is making huge strides and is simply a fantastic player. I certainly think he can make that step.”
Revealed: Manchester City plan to bolster two key positions in summer transfer window
Van Persie’s endorsement adds significant public weight to a pursuit that has been building quietly for some months.
City are understood to be in the market for a specialist right-back this summer, with director of football Hugo Viana having identified the position as one to strengthen ahead of the new season. Matheus Nunes has deputised capably in the role this term, but a dedicated option remains a priority.
Read is contracted to Feyenoord until 2029 and is valued at around €25 million by Transfermarkt, though the Dutch club’s ambitions of a record sale suggest any deal will require a fee closer to the €32 million threshold te Kloese has publicly targeted.
With Bayern Munich also in the picture, City will need to move decisively if they are to win the race for a player whose own manager has now confirmed he is ready for the biggest stage.
