Robinhood’s OGC Nice shirt deal draws scrutiny from French gambling regulator | OneFootball

OGC Nice’s front-of-shirt sponsor Robinhood also offers predictive markets, an activity not permitted in France, drawing scrutiny from the national gambling regulator ANJ.

The American firm became a multi-year major partner on one July 2025. According to L'Équipe, the ANJ is examining the deal because of Robinhood’s prediction-market product.

Prediction markets let users bet on specific outcomes in a yes or no format. In France, the ANJ deems such sites unauthorised and therefore illegal gambling.

On 16 July the ANJ ordered an administrative block of Polymarket, three days before the last World Cup final, Spain v Argentina, 1-0 after extra time. Financial transactions on these platforms have been banned for French residents since November 2024.

Regarding Robinhood at Nice, the regulator said its teams are assessing the offer’s details and whether it raises issues under French rules, adding that contact may follow.

Founded in 2013, Robinhood moved into prediction markets last year. In November, vice-president JB MacKenzie said demand was strong and that prediction markets had become its fastest-growing product by revenue.

Nice said this partnership promotes the Robinhood brand and the services it is legally authorised to provide in France. It added that prediction markets are offered in the United States, not marketed in France, and that in Europe the company holds MiCA authorisation from the Bank of Lithuania with an EU passport to offer several crypto-asset services referenced by the AMF.
