Rodrigo Caio has resigned from Flamengo following Filipe Luís’s departure on Tuesday (03), which came after the 8-0 win over Madureira in the Carioca semi-final at the Maracanã.
According to GE, the former centre-back was unhappy with the board’s decision to dismiss Filipe Luís, so he chose to leave the Rubro-Negro this Tuesday (08).
Rodrigo Caio had returned to the club in May 2025 to join Filipe Luís’s backroom team. He was responsible for Flamengo’s set-piece work.
Technical director José Boto interviewed three other candidates before appointing Rodrigo Caio, but the ex-defender stood out and convinced the Portuguese to proceed with the hire.
With Filipe Luís gone, Flamengo have moved to appoint Leonardo Jardim. The expectation is that he will land in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday night (03) to sign a two-year contract.
