Rodrigo Garro retains internal backing at Corinthians despite an early-season dip and a costly error in the derby defeat to Palmeiras.

Last Sunday he lost his starting place to Matheus Pereira, came on after the break and was involved in the decisive mistake in Itaquera, according to Globo.com.

Coaches view his demotion as a purely technical call. Physically he is in good condition, even after missing a few training days following left wrist surgery earlier this year, and he has trained as normal.

Inside CT Joaquim Grava his inconsistency is considered part of the process. He received a telling-off for the derby incident, yet support has come from team-mates, staff, coaches and the board.

Internally he is regarded as diligent and competitive, and his strong displays in the second half of 2024 keep hopes alive that he can regain a high level this season.

He was also praised for recent outings against Bahia in the Campeonato Brasileiro and Capivariano in the Paulistão.

Even so, Dorival Júnior currently prefers others in the role, handing prominence to youngsters Breno Bidon and André, and to new arrival Matheus Pereira.

Corinthians host Red Bull Bragantino on Thursday at 20:00 Brasília time, a match in the third round of the Campeonato Brasileiro at Neo Química Arena.
