CD Castellón made it two wins from two in pre-season, beating Valencia 1-2 thanks to goals from Raúl Sánchez and Adam Jakobsen. Pablo Hernández’s side stuck to their front-foot style, grew into the contest and eventually subdued Valencia. Rodrigo Rego impressed on debut during a lively late cameo.

Seven signings featured, with Jari Vlak, Hamza Bellari and Iñigo Córdoba starting. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Vlak is physically ready but still adjusting to Hernández’s system.

Bellari was among the liveliest before the break, driving at defenders but without a clear opening. Córdoba’s experience told, pressing and winning duels, and he teed up Álvaro García for the half’s best chance.

Goalkeeper Saipi came on after half-time and saved smartly at 0-1, then had no chance with Valencia’s strike into the top corner. Alvaro Martín again caught the eye between the lines, turning, carrying and picking passes with a cultured left foot. At that level he looks ready to start.

Juanjo Nieto underlined his experience, even drifting inside in attack, but was later sent off after a flashpoint with Dani Raba, from whom he took a slap. Rego had roughly half an hour, bright in the final third and close to making it 0-3. He may need time, and the Brighton background shows, but the first impression was encouraging.
