Arsenal have made Morgan Rogers their top transfer target this summer but have been warned that the Aston Villa midfielder will cost a record fee.

Mikel Arteta is prioritising a move for Rogers as he looks to strengthen his title-winning team this summer.

Rogers is currently with the England squad at the World Cup in North America, with his future due to be decided after the tournament.

According to The Athletic, the 23-year-old’s ‘priority’ is to play Champions League football and Villa’s qualification for the tournament has aided their position.

Villa do not want to lose Rogers and will demand a fee in excess of the £116million that Manchester City paid to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest this summer. Any deal in excess would make Rogers the most expensive British footballer of all time.

Arsenal are also considering Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, though the European champions also want a huge fee for the Frenchman.

Almost all of Europe’s top teams have admiration for Rogers, though Arsenal are frontrunners should the England midfielder move, at this stage.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have both expressed interest in Rogers previously, though have not formalised approaches.
