The rapport between Paulo Dybala and Roma has gone beyond contracts and numbers since he joined on a free transfer from Juventus, but the parties will inevitably have to negotiate a new deal this time around since his original one will expire in June.
According to Corriere dello Sport, there’s a mutual desire to continue together, but the parties will need to find common ground on the figures and the duration of the extension. They could begin setting the table for it in the first weeks of October.
Dybala is keen on staying at Roma, and the club reciprocates the sentiment. The player is well aware that he’ll have to settle for less than he’s making currently, €8M. The Giallorossi must be careful with their payroll due to the FFP.
La Joya reached hefty numbers through multiple automatic renewals triggered by appearance-based clauses. He progressively compounded his salary with the bonuses he earned along the way. He had started from €4M wages three years ago.
Former Roma director Tiago Pinto tried to push Dybala out the door before his wages became too expensive, arranging his transfer to Al-Qadsiah, but the player rejected it at the 11th hour. His camp and the club will begin discussing a multi-year contract that could satisfy everybody.
This kind of buzz has popped up regularly at this time of the year, but they really have to come to terms now. Still, it wouldn’t be surprising if they took the talks down to the wire, as they’ll be complex. He has been remarkably loyal, but he’ll literally have to put his money where his mouth is to confirm it.
